Pianist Esteban Herrera has a career that spans over 20 years as one of Mexico’s top jazz pianists. A recent transplant to Canada, Esteban is a veteran performer, composer, arranger and educator whose original contemporary jazz based music explores a variety of musical genres and features odd meters and complex rhythms. Esteban’s extensive career has taken him around the world and onto stages in Mexico, USA, Canada, Spain, Italy, Germany, France and Peru.
Born in the late 1970’s in Mexico City, Esteban Herrera’s first musical experience happened at the age of 11 when he received his first keyboard. Self-taught at first, Esteban’s skills grew to the point where he was accepted into the prestigious Conservatory of Music of the State of Mexico at 16 years old where he was immediately invited to be part of the jazz quartet "Aurora" that toured to Peru. Esteban excelled at his studies graduating with a focus on jazz music performance at 18 years old, then moving onto post-secondary receiving Bachelor degree’s in Communication Sciences and Jazz Music Performance. A testament to his abilities, in 2005 Esteban joined the faculty of his former school, the Conservatory of Music of the State of Mexico teaching harmony, piano technique and coaching student ensembles.
Esteban has recorded four albums under his name entitled Estrella (2013), Origen (2014), Fantasma (2015) and Transparente (2017).
